…Trauma Counseling, Sexual Abuse Therapy, or Anxiety Disorder Treatment

At Randel Porter Therapy, we understand the complexities of dealing with trauma. You didn’t choose to experience a traumatic event, and coping with its repercussions can feel like an uphill battle. Some days might seem normal, but others can be extremely tough. Maybe you thought you had left the trauma behind, only to find that certain triggers bring it back to the forefront.

What is Trauma and PTSD?

Trauma occurs when an individual is exposed to overwhelmingly distressing events, causing significant emotional upheaval. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that develops from such trauma, characterized by symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and persistent intrusive thoughts. Recognizing and understanding these conditions are the first steps toward seeking help and starting the healing journey.

Impact of Trauma on Our Lives

Trauma can have a profound and far-reaching impact on our lives. It can disrupt mental and emotional health, leading to chronic stress, anxiety, and depression. Trauma can also affect physical health, causing issues like insomnia, chronic pain, and fatigue. It can strain relationships, making trusting and connecting with others challenging.

Trauma Therapy Can Help You Heal

Trauma therapy is a vital tool for those dealing with the effects of distressing experiences. It provides a structured environment to process trauma and develop coping mechanisms.

Through therapy, individuals can:

  • Gain Insight: Understand how trauma has affected their lives and mental health.
  • Develop Coping Skills: Learn effective techniques to manage stress and anxiety.
  • Process Emotions: Work through painful memories with professional support.
  • Rebuild Relationships: Enhance communication and trust with loved ones.
  • Build Resilience: Strengthen the ability to face future challenges with confidence.

You May Have Doubts About Trauma Therapy

Doubts and concerns about starting trauma therapy are normal. You might worry about revisiting painful memories or question the effectiveness of therapy. However, trauma therapy in Lockhart, Texas, is designed to be a supportive and non-judgmental process. We will help you heal at your own pace and regain control over your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

PTSD Trauma Counseling in Lockhart Texas

I utilize a cutting-edge, neuroscience-based approach intended to pinpoint and resolve difficult problems quickly, easily, and automatically. My clients are often astounded at the shifts and changes we can make in just a first session. This approach works equally well for anxiety treatment, depression therapy, PTSD and trauma treatment, and couples and marriage counseling.

I work with adults (18 and up), couples (married or not, opposite sex or same sex), families, and groups.

I do full 1 hour sessions. Depending on the issue to be resolved, a 1.5 to 2 hour session may be suggested. Many of my clients even request 1.5 hour or 2 hour sessions just to get more accomplished. You will see how we work at our first session and can then choose the length of subsequent sessions. Couples sessions always benefit from being at least 1.5 hours.

Our sessions are $300/hour. 1 – 2 sessions with me can easily replace months (or years) of traditional therapy. I have received scores of comments from clients about the efficiency and ease of transformation they obtained.

Perhaps the best one: “I felt more of an improvement after even the initial 20-minute consultation with you then I did from all the therapists I’ve seen over the previous 20 years!”

No, I am not in-network with any insurance companies. However, there is one possible alternative if you would like to use your insurance: check with your provider to see if your coverage includes Out of Network (OON) benefits for mental health visits. If you have OON coverage, you would pay for the service at the time of your appointment, then I will provide you with a SuperBill which you will send to your provider to seek reimbursement directly from them.

Note: There is only ONE way to ensure that all topics and issues we discuss in a session stay 100% confidential and only between you and I, and that is self-pay with no insurance, which is the framework I use.

Please be advised when using insurance:

  1. all insurance companies require a mental disorder diagnosis
  2. they may request a copy of our session notes”
  3. they may decline your request for reimbursement
  4. they may dictate the number of sessions and the length of the sessions
  5. anyone who comes in contact with your personal health information in the chain of insurance processing has access to it; the exact opposite of confidentiality.

A mental disorder diagnosis will become a part of your permanent health record. It can work against you when attempting to get certain insurances, apply for certain licenses, or in your military or business career, as anyone who has a “legitimate” reason to access the medical database can view your records.

For these reasons, I have decided not to accept health insurance directly.

Yes! I see clients via teletherapy. Due to the way I work, video (and phone) sessions are every bit as effective as in-person sessions. Additionally, many people find them preferable due to ease of scheduling (no travel time) or where they are physically located.

Confidentiality is a large part of what makes counseling successful. For many people, it is the only safe, non-judgmental, and confidential place where they can feel completely at ease to talk about absolutely anything. Nothing that we talk about nor any identifying characteristics of you will ever be discussed outside of our meetings.

The consultation is a great way for me to learn what you’ve been experiencing so I can then know how I can be of benefit for you. If you are initially hesitant to reach out to a stranger for counseling, it is also a way for you to get more comfortable and familiar with me before we do a session.

I serve clients on weekdays from 10 am – 6 pm. Other days and times are available by request with additional cost.

Please call, text, or email. If I am in session, please leave a message and I will return your phone call, text, or email the same day. If you are contacting me for an appointment, please let me know of a few days and times that would work for you.
